At only 8hp, I can’t imagine them “soaring”, but apparently there is still quite a following:

In fall of 1957 my father bought me a new 1958 Cushman Roadking. I was eleven years old at the time and rode it nine miles to town for ball practice and doing farm errands. I rode it for two years and we traded it in for a 1960 J-Be. It was a Hercules frame with a 135cc Sachs motor. I still have many fond memories of the ’58 Roadking and it started me on a lifelong interest in motorcycles. It had the optional speedometer and would do up to 55 mph but our roads were all gravel so I usually rode it about 40 to 45 mph. By contrast I was only 10 years when I first drove 120 mph. After 37 years in law enforcement with 15 years working traffic I realize that I should not have survived the early two-wheeler days or the speed runs in Dad’s hopped up ’56 Merc.
